Tang KiddiCine Film Festival Debuts Country’s Youngest Directors

Manila, Philippines -The Tang KiddiCine Film Festival culminated last November 27, with the debut of five films written, shot and created by the finalists chosen for this unique opportunity. Mia and Mika Azurin, ages 10 and 9, Ronn-Jeoff Beltran, 10, Luke Acosta, 8 and Kendrick Santos, 9, were part of history-in-the-making as they became five of the country’s youngest film directors through the Tang KiddiCine program.

In a desire to showcase children’s creativity, talent and independence in a manner never-before-seen, the Tang KiddiCine search challenged kids to show us the world through their own eyes. Just months ago, Tang and Kraft Foods Philippines set out to find the extraordinary kids who can do just this through 3-5 minute short films inspired by the theme “Because I Can”. All they had to do was write and send the stories that they wanted to make come alive on the big screen.

The response to our challenge? More than a hundred entries poured in from all over the Philippines- overwhelming evidence of the passion that fuels the ambitions of kids today. And proof that armed with a little support, a bit of guidance and a whole lot of imagination,  kids can become the future faces of Philippine film at the first-ever Tang KiddiCine Film Festival.

“The Tang KiddiCine Film Festival was born out of our curiosity to see the world through the eyes of those who live with limitless possibilities,” says Cynthia Icasas, Beverage Category Manager of Kraft Foods Philippines. “Tang may be the brand that lent them this opportunity but in truth, we are the ones who borrow from their infinite imagination.”

Mika, Mia, Ronn-Jeoff, Luke and Kendrick, started on their once-in-a-lifetime journey last October by landing ‘Golden Tickets’ which allowed them to participate in workshops held by some of the country’s best independent film and commercial directors: Erin Pascual, Matthew Rosen, Ianco Dela Cruz, Christian Acuna and Richard Ang.

Through the workshops, finalists learned basic filming techniques, script-writing and gained priceless insight into film making. And with the guidance of their mentor directors, finalists were able to share their stories in a well-produced short film, each of them having a different and unique story to tell.

Mia Azurin, directed and took the lead role in her very own, “The Impossible Wish”. Her younger sister Mika Azurin, on the other hand awarded lead roles to her toys in her film entitled, “Not So Bad Villain”. Luke Acosta recounted his tale using his very own clay-model creations in his film, “My Special Gift”.  Ronn-Jeoff Beltran went back to the time of dinosaurs with his movie “Cody’s Cretaceous Dream”. Kendrick Santos promoted being everyday heroes for the environment with his film entitled, “Because I Can, I Will”.

“The five short films that were debuted are no less than awe-inspiring. On behalf of Tang and Kraft Foods Philippines and the team behind Tang KiddiCine, I extend my deepest gratitude and most heartfelt congratulations to the five finalists for an excellent job,” says Icasas.

The Tang KiddiCine Film Fest concluded with the viewing of the five films at Gateway Mall Cinema 4, last Saturday with two screening schedules –one dedicated solely to the friends and family of the finalists and some select guests. It was also there that the five were awarded unique trophies in recognition of their participation in the first-ever Tang KiddiCine Film Festival.

Followers of the Tang KiddiCine page on Facebook were also given the chance to be a part of the film fest. By commenting on the online poster on the Tang KiddiCine page, they received limited edition tickets to the special screening for free.

For more information on the screening process for Tang KiddiCine, visit www.facebook.com/tangkiddicine or search for Tang KiddiCine on Facebook for more details.

Mommy, No Veggies: How to Address Picky Eating

We all know that mothers only want what’s best for their children, especially when it comes to nutrition. Since they want their children to grow up to be healthy individuals, mothers go through great lengths in order to provide well-balanced meals for their children.

Food preparation in itself may be difficult, but sometimes, it is more difficult to get children to eat the nutritious dishes prepared for them.

If only all children ate what their parents or guardians made for them, then there wouldn’t be any problem. In fact this is the case during a child’s first two years. But then one day, this same child who ate almost everything given to him or her starts rejecting food and saying “No.” The child gets more exposed to certain types of food; and after discovering the joys of sweets and hotdogs; he usually prefers these over healthier food options.

The same thing happens over and over again—and before you know it, your child has turned into a picky eater.

The term “picky eater” is one of the most frequently used terms by health professionals in characterizing the eating behavior of some children. In Filipino, these children are described as “mapili o maselan” when it comes to food.

Its most common identifiers are:

  • The child consumes a limited number or an inadequate variety of food, and/or exhibits strong food preferences;
  • The child is unwilling to try new food (food neophobia); and
  • The child eats slowly, lacks interest, and/or does not eat enough.

Food acceptance or rejection may be based on the qualities of food such as taste, texture, appearance, smell, or temperature. In extreme cases, there are even times when entire food groups are avoided!

“Look, I prepared ice cream, chicken nuggets, and pizza for breakfast!”

Many parents come to rely on snacks eaten on the go, which tend to be salty, sweet, or otherwise unhealthy. At mealtimes, moms will provide "kid food," easy-to-prepare child-pleasers like ice cream, chicken nuggets, and pizza. Based on the 6th National Nutrition Survey, softdrinks top the list of the most commonly consumed item of 6 month – 5 year old children.

Reclaim Your Child’s Dietary Future
Clearly, there’s more to ‘picky eating’ than meets the eye—it represents potential health problems for your child, not only in the present, but also in the future.

In need of inspiration, sometimes I think about looking up online cooking schools, as well as taking classes towards an online nutrition degree for the best benefit for my family.

Blogging Tips: Prevent Your Content From Being Stolen/Copied

Plagiarism or copying of a blog's content (photos or post) is prevalent these days.  Some do it easily by subscribing to our blog feed and copying what's in the feed  while some do this by simply right clicking and highlighting your content and copy or save it.

For those who steal content in your blog via blog feed, instead of feeding the whole content of your blog just allow at least three sentences or one paragraph to be streamed in your feed than the whole content.

For those who want to disable the right click capability of your site here's some plugins and codes you can use to prevent it.

WORDPRESS: Upload the WP-CopyRightPro Plugin in your blog just type in the search box of the plugin tabs in your dashboard and you will find it there, if not go here http://wp-copyrightpro.com/.

Those who are using BLOGSPOT you can put the following codes by adding a new page element anywhere in your blog and input these HTML codes:

With pop-up message: (example: Do not steal my content!)

Without pop-up message:

If that doesn't work go here and copy codes in the box

The First-ever KiddiCine Film Festival Calls for Entries

ATTENTION MOMMIES!   Tang’s search for the future faces of Philippine film starts today!

Tang calls on children aged seven to ten years old to send in their short stories that will be the basis of their film. They can draw a picture, take a photo and write up the best, most inventive and most creative ideas to capture the attention of the Screening Committee who will be judging entries based on Creativity, Originality and Adherence to the Theme.  The theme for the First-ever KiddiCine Film Festival is "Because I Can”.

Short listed entries will be notified in person and the top five finalists who will receive the Tang Golden Ticket will get to attend a three-day KiddiCine Film Workshop. There, the finalists will be taught the basics of the craft under the mentorship of some of today’s most respected Advertising Directors.

In the sessions, they will be taught a short background on film, basic filming techniques and basic script-writing by no less than five well-known directors here in our local arena.

These directors include; Richard Ang, a film and television commercial director, who specializes in highly technical projects with edgy visual effects and computer graphics; Ianco Dela Cruz who started way back when he was a student, venturing to commercials, AVPs and forming a production company where he holds the Executive Producer position. There is also widely-respected and multi-awarded Erik Matti, known for being not just a film/ TV and advertising director but also for being a screen/story writer, producer and restaurateur; Erin Pascual who at an early age sought his talent for animation, special effects and as a motion graphics/ visual effects artist; Matthew Rosen who has been directing for over 25 years, winning national awards and awards globally with over 700 commercials, music videos and TV content under his belt and lastly; Christian Acuna who has been directing TV commercials and other advertising content for over two years and has vast success in directing short films.

If we were to see the world through the eyes of someone who knows no limit to possibility, would we see a different world from the one we live in now? Tang believes in celebrating kids’ creativity, their views and their work and with KiddiCine, welcomes the chance to see the world in their eyes.

Entries should be composed of a completed application form (with a short summary of the story) and an endorsement letter from the parents / guardian. All these have to be sent as “Tang KiddiCine Film Entry” to Ogilvy and Mather, Philippines, 25/F Picadilly Star Building, 4th Avenue corner 27th St, Fort Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City 1634 or you can also send entries online. For more information on contest requirements and to download the form, you may go online to www.facebook.com/tangkiddicine . Deadline is on October 28, 2010.

Nuffnang and PLDT myDSL Special Screening

The Social Network is the movie which features the story behind the success of Facebook which is valued at $16 Billion US dollars today! We will learn more about Mark Zuckerberg the founding president of Facebook as portrayed by Justin Timberlake and Eduardo Saverin who plays the role of Eduardo Severin the co-founder who fell out with Zuckerberg over money.

I would like to see the movie just to see the controversy and how they did it! Incidentally Nuffnang is giving away exclusive invites to 90 Nuffies who can make the cut. (Hope I still can make it!) Aside from the movie invite they will also be giving away a PLDT myDSL modem and wifi to one lucky winner!

I want to win the PLDT myDSL modem+wifi!  Simple analogy if...
“The Social Network is to Facebook, as PLDT myDSL modem+wifi is to unlimited uninterrupted internet surfing anytime anywhere!”

I love the fact that PLDT myDSL is plug-and-play just like the regular myDSL modem but I don't need to download any software to make it work.  I also love the fact that I can enjoy up to 25 meters of myDSL WiFi connection that virtually makes me surf anytime anywhere I am!   My sister and I can surf the net at the same time because its high-speed and allows simultaneous connection via WiFi!

Amenia Awareness And Pregnancy Conference Invite

Dear Mommies,

A special press briefing on Anemia and Pregnancy entitled "Towards a Healthy Madonna and Child", will be conducted by Dr. Nils Milman from Denmark. Dr. Milman has written over 100 papers on Anemia, and has done extensive research on the subject, particularly its effects on pregnant women. The Perinatal Association of the Philippines invited Dr. Milman here from Denmark, to raise awareness on Anemia and Pregnancy, as it is a very real and very serious health concern that affects an alarming number of women, particularly pregnant ones.

Dr. Milman will lay down the latest cold hard facts and statistics on Anaemia and Pregnancy, show you why the disease cannot be taken lightly, and give expert advice on its prevention and treatment.  If you want to attend please post comments here.  Please post interest until 12NN Sunday, September 26,2010 so I can forward your names to the invitee.  Conference will be held on Monday Sept. 27, 2010 10AM to 12NN at Crown Plaza. (Please wait for my email for confirmation. Thank you!)

Anemia Facts:

In the Philippines, The WHO reports that 42% of Filipino women of reproductive age suffer from Anemia, while 44% of pregnant women suffer from the affliction. The number of women who suffer from Anemia in South East Asia has been on the decline over the last 10 years, but the decline has not been fast or steady, which is why there are now more efforts to raise awareness on the disease.

Anemia is a disease many are familiar with; the word anemic has become virtually synonymous to weak or frail. Anemia is closely linked to Leukemia, which is one of the deadliest forms of cancer. Anemia’s most common visible symptoms are the reason it has become another word for weakness. Women who are anemic often experience diminished physical capacity, fatigue, dizziness, palpitations and irregular menstrual periods.

Why Do I Want An Adtel Home Solar Kit

My mom has hyper tension and her normal blood pressure is 120/100 but every month my moms blood pressure would shoot to 200/180 and that is because of her Meralco bill.

For this month's billing statement her bill is Php3,700 plus which is kinda odd and too expensive for her regular consumption.  She only uses TV when her soap operas are on, her fridge is on half the day mostly at night so she can have ice all day,  she doesn't use air con because the house is well ventilated just a fan occasionally, and a desktop computer .

I would try to calm my mom down by telling her that Meralco again issued an increase in the bill, which doesn't help at all, and explain to her about the system loss, which she believe she shouldn't be paying at all.  My mom can't understand that Meralco Distribution charges she has to pay either.
I want this cycle of calming my mom down and stop the worst thing ever if her bill reaches Php6,000 in the coming months because of the impending hike in the electricity rates again.  I would like my mom to have the Adtel Home Solar Kit so my mom can enjoy her telenovelas and we don't have to worry about her blood pressure shooting up to an uncontrollable level.

Please help me win this Adtel Home Solar Kit for my mom by clicking this Facebook like button .  Thanks so much!  This is my entry for the LopezLink contest.
I really think we shouldn't be paying the system loss and other charges we didn't consume, what do you think?
